Hovering between art and design
A work team and a showroom relying on both a
common professional interest and a technical discovery.The team is composed by Gianni
Trevia and Luca Buffetti, who set up Valais in 1994, to design and
market furniture and opened a showroom in Milan, after two years' hard work.
Their peculiar path is a result of their great interest in graphic arts and design,
cultivated together with marketing and the "discovery" of a new plastification
technique, which allows any material to be applied to a plane surface and protected.
Therefore, two artistic worlds can be connected with each other to create absolutely
"new" products: chests of drawers, end and coffee tables in several sizes, wood
screens - their surfaces being covered with scratchproof and stain-resistant PVC films
which preserve the materials and pictures chosen as decorative elements.
"We concentrate
only on design
and marketing-said Trevia-the manufacturing process has been entrusted to some Lombard
companies. We have selected them to guaranted first-rate finishes and high flexibility,
which are top priorities if the themes applied to the surfaces are to be diversified.
Our products are enhanced by exquisite craftsmanship, which affects neither sale prices
(they are quite reasonable) nor the delivery time, which satisfies the market's
requirements, as logistics receives continued emphasis".
Art has been the main source of inspiration for the first collection, which was introduced
when the showroom was opened; affiches reproducing classic and modern iconography by Leonardo, Modigliani, Michelangelo, Brueghel, Canaletto, Monet, Van Gogh and Klimt follow one
another on the furniture chosen by both owners.
The Contemporanea collection is based upon the same furniture, although the surfaces are
covered with authentic works by a group of young designers.
Therefore, two main product ranges are currently available: they are supported by ad hoc
projects and can be supplied with new designs and materials to be plastified.
Valais peculiarity tries to bring interior designs closer to everybody's culture, relying
on figurative art.
